Wilbrahams' Youth Group23/3/11 - Mary Sweeney The Youth Group has been running for 6 years now on a weekly basis: Wednesdays from 7.45 until 9.30pm in the Memorial Hall. Young people are eligible to join from the last term of Year 6 until the end of Year 11. There are currently 28 registered members, half of those attend every week. Young people can join if they live in the Wilbrahams or Six Mile Bottom, if they attended Gt. Wilbraham Primary School, or from elsewhere with the approval of the committee. We run a wide range of activities (bowling to cooking!). There is a notice board just inside the hall door with a list of what is happening each term, our behaviour rules and our Policies (CRB checks etc). The Youth Group is run on an 'open access' basis - young people can arrive and leave when they wish - subject to their own parents' requirements ofcourse. We have a Tuck Shop each week, and toasted sandwiches on sale. The membership cost is £1 each week (just reduced!!). Year 6s pay 50p a week for their first term, and leave at 9pm. The organising committee comprises: Mary Sweeney, Helen Torode, Cheryl Taylor, Teresa Johnson (Youth Leaders), Andrew Lawrance (Treasurer), Tony Mann and Gerry Stringer (IT project work). We also have Peer Youth Leaders from time to time - Adam Horsfield and Tom Sweeney have just completed their 'V Awards' in those roles. Any 'A'level students who would like to volunteer to be a Peer Leader, and achieve the 'V Award', will be welcomed. We also provide 'Duke of Edinburgh Award' volunteer placements. We would love to hear from any adults who would like to volunteer as a Youth Leader or who would like to offer specific sessions to Youth Group - past examples include: cooking, art, pottery, gardening, bell ringing. Visitors are also welcome to come to see Youth Group in operation. We are grateful to the Hall Committee for their support and reduced hire rate, to the Parish Councils for their donations and to the Neighbourhood Policing Team who come to hang out with Youth Group from time to time. | ||
